My story
June, 2022
I have made the choice to follow my calling to move to Canada and work for the Hungry For Life organization as a Project Manager & Mission Focusing Consultant.
Hungry For Life is a Christian aid and development organization that connects people through meaningful long-term projects that bring about physical and spiritual change.
I hope to contribute to this in my work. I will work with both local Canadian partners and international partners to realize sustainable development projects that contribute to poverty alleviation and building God's Kingdom on earth.
During my internship from March to June at Hungry For Life, I was able to learn what it is like to work full-time in the mission field, I grew in faith and through my work I was able to serve the people living in poverty and darkness. A dream that I have seen develop step by step in recent years.
When I looked into the abyss from the cemetery in Guatemala City in 2016 and saw people looking for valuable waste that was dumped there, my heart was touched by injustice for the first time and I felt the desire to spend my time and energy here. to commit to and fight this injustice.
During my studies in International Development Studies and also during other mission trips, this desire has continued to grow and God has repeatedly opened doors for me at times when I did not know what the next step would be.
I find the decision to go to Canada a difficult and big step, which is far outside my comfort zone, but in recent months I have felt this calling strongly and experienced God's guidance in making this decision. Leaving the Netherlands is not without sadness to say goodbye to my friends, family and relatives. But I can trust that God will guide and take care of me on the other side of the world and that he will also care for the people I leave behind in the Netherlands.
During recent trips with Hungry For Life to Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Ukraine, I experienced how God, despite all the misery, knows how to change lives and shine his light in places where it is spiritually dark. This motivates and makes me want to contribute to this.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
– Ephesians 2:10
This is a step of faith, I don't know where it will lead me, but I hope and pray that you will support me in this.
